[edit] History

Golgo Island is a fast paced WarEngine mod focusing on rendering simply heroic feats achieved by B-movie heroes against hordes of helpless villains in the tradition of Hollywood movies (and their cheaper avatars). It can be used for Pulp gaming, and we actually consider it Pulp gaming – only the action is set in a loose time frame much larger than the Pulp era. Wherever and whenever your heroes come from, though, they must expect to live improbable adventures on Golgo Island, such as you have only seen in those B-movie timewasters you watch late at night with a can of beer and a couple of good-humoured friends.

These Wiki pages are under constant construction, but there is all the material you need to play exciting games in Golgo Island, including the official rules for the range of figures by East Riding Miniatures. [edit] Setting

Golgo Island is a place of mystery and riches, of dangers and plots, of adventure and romance. From all over the vast world surrounding it and beyond, adventurers of all kinds flock to fulfil astounding missions or undertake unbelievable quests, facing unsuspected opponents - human, animal, mutant, extra-terrestrial… Or other! [edit] An Overview Of The Game

Usual Golgo Island games involve two or more rival groups of adventurers. Of course, direct confrontations between parties are possible, but are not the main aim of the game. In most of the scenarios we offer, players spend more time facing creatures that aren’t part of their forces than fighting each other, thanks to very simple game mechanics. The figures used in the game all fall into one of those three categories.

The WarEngine's philosophy has always been to let gamers be free and creative, and Golgo Island is no exception. For those of you who would like to use different profiles for the Golgo Island figures by East Riding Miniatures, or stat up figs from the many other ranges suitable for the genre, we have created a subsection with Guidelines to help you design your own profiles the same way we did ours, and another one where you will find a few ready-made profiles for some common (or on the contrary very uncommon) archetypes done by popular request.

[edit] Rule Addenda

As any WarEngine game, Golgo Island is meant to be fast paced, entirely customisable, and balanced thanks to the WarEngine’s point system. Very little preparation is required, no Game Master, no bookkeeping, no complication of any sort - you just take your figs out, deploy them and you’re ready to grab the dice, focus on the action and the fun talk.

All rules from the WarEngine apply. If you don't know them yet, you've found the right place to get them. When you know them, all you need to do is get familiar with a few rules and tweaks we added.

  • Golgo Island Twists: The new feature that will give your Golgo Island game some Pulp/B-Movie flavour and do most of the Non-Player Figures work.

[edit] Campaigns

Playing campaigns certainly contributes to making things exciting. There are many ways to play campaigns, and dedicated players always come up with great ideas for their group. Here you will find a few short campaigns, as well as a little "how to" - basic suggestions on how to run campaigns in Golgo Island very simply.

[edit] Tournaments

As any game using PV, Golgo Island can be used for tournament play. It can, but doesn’t have to be a competitive tournament – a tournament may well be considered as a large scale campaign with a story behind it. Free tournaments allow participants to choose their heroes – that choice includes profile creation. Sealed Tournaments oblige players to pick randomly determined Heroes for a few games or the entire tournament. Both methods can be combined. The official Golgo Island tournament, the Golgo Banana Showdown, is a campaign organised as a relaxed, tongue in the cheek tournament, with the point scores of the participants determining the outcome of the campaign. All participants are free to come up with the minis of their choice and a profile of their creation, as long as they follow the recommended guidelines set to ensure game balance.

[edit] Scenarios

The following section lists generic scenarios as well as scenarios used in our mini-campaigns (see campaigns)

  • Dominate: An introductory scenario, complete with a demo version of the rules necessary to play your first Golgo Island game.
  • Explore and hold: A typical scenario in which competing forces explore an unknown area and want to take hold of it.
  • The Loot: A highly adaptable research scenario.
  • The Quest: Another research scenario, just as adaptable as the previous one.
  • The Harvest: Competing forces clash as covet the same single objective.
